If Suno V6 keeps handing back something other than what you asked for, there is a good chance it is not ignoring your prompt — it is editing it. One of the creative sliders is documented to rewrite your style text before the model ever reads it, and the fix is a single setting. This is the clearest, best-documented control question in V6, and almost nobody has read the page where Suno answers it.

Every definition in this guide is quoted from Suno's own help centre rather than from community theory, because this is an area where confident guesswork circulates fast and costs people generations.

The one-line answer

Variety rewrites your style prompt. Suno: it is "designed to introduce variety in your outputs by adjusting and updating your style prompts".

Set it to 0 to stop that. Suno: "If you'd like to retain full control of your style tags, reduce the Variety slider to 0."

Style Influence is adherence. Loose to Strong — "how close you stay to your style input".

Weirdness is risk. Safe to Chaos, and "50% is the 'normal' expected result".

There is no magic preset. Run the worksheet further down instead of copying somebody's numbers.

What each slider actually does

Three controls, three genuinely different jobs, and one of them is not like the others.

Read those four rows carefully and the important asymmetry jumps out. Weirdness and Style Influence change how the model interprets your prompt. Variety changes the prompt itself. That is a completely different kind of operation, and it is the one people are unknowingly fighting.

Variety rewrites your prompt before generation

This is the single most useful sentence in V6's documentation, and it explains the majority of "the model ignored my tags" complaints that have filled r/SunoAI since launch.

If you type sparse folk, close vocal with Variety raised, the model is not necessarily working from those four words. Suno's description is that the slider adjusts and updates your style prompts — so the text that reaches generation can be longer, broader and differently weighted than what you wrote. You then listen to the result, conclude your prompt does not work, and rewrite a prompt that was never the problem.

Set Variety to 0 and, per Suno's own wording, you retain full control of your style tags. That is the difference between running an experiment and guessing.

The practical rule

Testing a prompt? Variety 0. You cannot learn what your wording does while something else is editing it.

Want the model to explore around a brief you already trust? Raise it deliberately, and read what comes back.

Style Influence and Weirdness are not the same dial

These two get conflated constantly, including in advice threads that recommend lowering one when they mean the other.

Style Influence — how tightly it follows you

Loose to Strong, governing "how close you stay to your style input". Strong is not automatically better. A very specific brief at maximum adherence can produce something technically obedient and musically stiff, because you have removed the model's room to resolve the parts you did not specify. If your results feel mechanically correct but lifeless, this is the control to loosen.

Weirdness — how much risk it takes

Safe to Chaos, with 50% as the normal expected result. The detail worth internalising is that 50% is a baseline, not a midpoint of an effect. You are not applying a moderate amount of weirdness at 50%; you are applying none, in the sense that this is the default behaviour. Below it you are asking for something more conservative. Above it you are asking the model to take chances.

The fourth slider most people never see

Audio Influence only appears when you use Audio Upload, which is why it is missing from most slider explainers. It is not a text control and it does not belong in the same mental category as the other three — it governs how tightly a generation tracks a recording you supplied rather than a description you typed.

If you have never uploaded audio you can ignore it entirely. If you have, it is the most consequential control in the interface for that generation, and we cover the whole workflow in our guide to using your own voice memo or riff as the starting point.

Three myths worth dropping

All three circulate widely enough to be worth naming.

Before you release the keeper

What is the best slider setting for Suno V6?+
There isn't one, and any page giving you a universal preset is guessing. Genre, lyric density, vocal style and whether you uploaded audio all move the answer. What is reliable is the method rather than the numbers: hold your lyric and style text identical, set Variety to 0 so your wording survives, then change exactly one control per generation and keep notes. Five runs on that grid will teach you more about your own material than any borrowed preset, because the preset was tuned on somebody else's song.
Can I set the sliders by typing a percentage into my prompt?+
No. The sliders are user-interface controls, and typing something like 'weirdness 30%' into your style box does not move the actual slider — it just adds text the model has to interpret as part of your style description, which can make things worse rather than better. Set the controls in the interface and keep the prompt for musical description. This confusion is common enough in community threads that it is worth stating plainly.
Does Weirdness at 50% mean it is halfway weird?+
Not quite — 50% is the baseline rather than the midpoint of an effect. Suno's wording is that Weirdness 'goes from Safe to Chaos, where 50% is the normal expected result', so 50% is what you get if you do not think about it at all. Moving below it asks for something more conservative and predictable; moving above it asks the model to take more risks. Treat 50% as the default you are deviating from, not as a moderate amount of weirdness you are already applying.
Should I turn Variety to 0 permanently?+
For testing, yes. For finished work, it depends on what you want. Variety exists because a literal reading of a short style prompt can produce samey results across generations, and its rewrite genuinely does open things up. The problem is only that it makes your prompt an unreliable variable while you are trying to learn. A sensible pattern is to develop and test at Variety 0 until the wording reliably produces what you want, then raise it deliberately if you want the model to explore around that brief.
Do these sliders exist on all V6 models?+
The creative sliders are part of the generation interface rather than a property of one model, so they apply as you work across the V6 family — v6, v6-wild and the free-tier v6-mini. What differs is how much headroom each model has to respond. v6-wild is already the looser, more characterful model in the family, so pushing Weirdness high on top of it compounds in a way it does not on the flagship. Test your settings per model rather than carrying them across.
Does any of this affect whether my track passes distribution?+
No — these are creative controls and distributor screening is a separate problem entirely. Screening runs once, at the moment you submit, and it looks at signal-level markers in the exported file rather than at how adventurous your prompt was.
